The West Chatham Concert Band — featuring musicians from Jordan-Matthews, Chatham Central and area middle schools — performs at the 49th annual Carowinds Festival of Music, one of the most anticipated and celebrated student performance events in the Carolinas. Middle and high school bands, jazz ensembles, orchestras and choral ensembles showcase their artistry in one of the park’s unique onsite venues.
The Festival of Music offers a valuable opportunity to learn from masters. Under the guidance of retired Winthrop University Director of Bands Dr. William F. Malambri, nationally known adjudicators evaluate and critique each instrumental ensemble’s performance with awards presented for Superior and Excellent ratings. Other adjudicators scheduled for May 31 are Dr. Susan Nicholson, Director of Bands at Wofford College, and Stanley F. Michalski Jr., Distinguished Emeritus Professor and Conductor of the Carolina Wind Orchestra at Winthrop University.
This festival appearance also provides an opportunity for JM musicians to celebrate friendship and their work together with a day enjoying one of America’s notable theme parks.
The West Chatham Concert Band performs from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Carowinds Theater. Other details of this performance will be provided here as available.
