JM returns for a third-straight year to the North Carolina Theatre Conference High School Play Festival with two performances over two days in the regional competition at Asheboro High School.
TODAY’S PLAY IS “CARL FLUNT WOULD PROTECT YOU FROM CARS,” a play by Scott Mullen performed by the JM’s After-School Actors. A teenage girl is stunned when she is visited by her older selves from various futures — and starts to give some serious thought to what she wants to do with her life.
Yesterday afternoon, JM’s Theater 2 class took the stage to perform “Conflict.”
The NCTC High School Play Festival showcases the talent of more than 3,500 students from more than 100 schools in over 130 productions, giving schools across the state an opportunity to share their talents and celebrate their collective achievements. The festival was named one of the “Top High School Theatre Festivals” by Stage Directions magazine.
Schools begin performing at one of eight two-day regional festivals. Select plays from each of the regional festivals advance to the NCTC State High School Play Festival on November 20-21 at Greensboro College, and the top two shows at the state festival advance to a national showcase.
Eight shows are currently scheduled for Saturday — four in the morning session (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and four in the afternoon session (2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.). Other high schools scheduled to perform on Saturday at this site are: Asheboro, Davie County, Oak Grove, Carolina Day School, Cornerstone Charter and Hickory Ridge. After a break for dinner, the regional awards ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. All performances are free and open to the public.
